I’m really hoping I can get myself to do more creative writing this year. I have a novel that I’m currently working on but it’s slow going and so I’ve had my eyes peeled for some writing exercises I could take part in to hopefully keep my mind sharp and my ideas flowing.
I have the wonderful Savannah @msliterary to thank for introducing me to #AtticNotebook. This is a writing exercise/challenge created by Laini Taylor, author of gems such as Strange the Dreamer and The Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Here’s how it works: find a notebook or journal to write in, spend 15 minutes (recommended) free writing with or without a prompt, and don’t look back at what you’ve written. Fill up the notebook/journal and set it aside for a full month. After that month you can go back and reread what you’ve written. You may find that there’s some very useful story ideas in there!
You can check out Laini Taylor’s original #atticnotebook post here. Does this sound like something you would try? Do you do any writing exercises? I’d love to hear about them in the comments!
This is a cool idea! I just have trouble sticking to stuff, but I’m trying a new writing challenge too, it’s my newest post if you’d like to read!:)
